Twitter is leading the way, but still owns and controls the data and infrastrucutre.&lt;/p&gt;&lt;p&gt;It's all a riff on the meaning of 'open'.&lt;/p&gt;&lt;p&gt;There is 'open' as in 'door' - which is bad for privacy. Expect to see much more granular access privileges for UGC.&lt;/p&gt;&lt;p&gt;Then there is also 'open' as in 'compatible' - which is the key. People will assemble their networks and functionality to best suit their interests/needs.
